WHAT’S THE CHARI-TEA? IS A COMMUNITY, PODCAST, CONSULTANCY & MOVEMENT

Supporting nonprofit professionals, charity sector teams, and purpose-driven leaders to connect and build healthy, enjoyable, and emotionally sustainable careers - and to create workplaces that are more human, more ethical and more purpose-driven.

After years inside the sector, we’ve seen the truth behind the mission driven glow: the emotional labour, blurred boundaries, the nonprofit burnout, and the pressure to give more than you have. We’ve watched brilliant, compassionate people walk away from work they love - not because they didn’t care, but because the system made it emotionally unsustainable.

So we decided to spill the tea.

What’s the Chari‑tea?, founded in 2025, exists to tell the truth about nonprofit life and to help people build purpose-led careers that last. We blend honesty, humanity and a little humour to create a space where we support nonprofit professionals, fundraisers, charity leaders, social impact practitioners, and purposedriven organisations to feel seen, supported and empowered. We help individuals and teams build meaningful careers without sacrificing their wellbeing.

ABOUT LOU.jpg

OUR FOUNDER

After 15 years working as a People & Culture and Human Resources Specialist, Louise Dawtry has helped build award-winning workplaces that feel just as inspiring as the missions they serve (hello ★★★ Best Companies and Great Place to Work recognition). The last 10 years of her career have been spent inside the charity and social impact sector, supporting organisations to create cultures that are human, healthy and built to last.

Blending her expertise in People Experience, Organisational Culture and Design, Wellbeing and purpose‑led Professional Development, and her lived experience of burnout, Lou created What’s the Chari‑tea? in 2025. Lou wanted to create a fresh, community‑insight‑driven platform to allow the voices of nonprofit professionals and volunteers to be heard loud and clear.

Her mission is simple: to help the people who help everyone else build happier, healthier and more sustainable working lives, and to support purpose-led organisations to create world-class, people experience and culture strategies.

A Columnist for Charity Times and a public speaker, Louise also serves on the Board of Trustees at Staying Put and volunteers with The King’s Trust and Smart Works - championing confidence, opportunity and emotionally sustainable careers across the sector.
